Maha Shivaratri is dedicated to the manifested concept of Parabrahman (One beyond all imaginations), the Ultimate Truth of Existence as Lord Shiva. Our Guru parampara (traditional lineage) started through the manifestation of Lord Shiva as a Jangama sage, who emerged from the Shivalingam to the young Sathyaraju on the 7th day of August 1949. The world came to know Him as Shri Shivabalayogi.
Shri Shivabalayogi Guru Maharaj taught meditation for mind control and to know the Self. Mind control means bringing back the scattered mind in to single pointedness, thereby making it to go introverted to know the Real Self. Swamiji said meditate and know your Self.
Knowing your Self means gaining conscious awareness of the Self as Shiva. Shiva is Existence in total thoughtlessness state as the Supreme Consciousness and Supreme Energy. This is also the Ardhanaareeshwara concept – male and female aspects of the Divinity which is beyond all explanations.
Swamiji taught when one begins visualize Shiva as the Divine and yourself as a devotee. Swamiji, one day explaining this to me, said that it is like when the droplet is going towards the Ocean, it shall consider the Ocean as it’s Master, the Divine, so that no ego sets in to the imagination of that droplet of itself as the Ocean. When the small individual consciousness of self is still there such a one should not think of oneself as Shiva, the Divine. When the merger happens through meditation and Samadhi no such thought occurs. As there is no thought, no ego also is there. This is Shiva. Until then it is devotee and the Divine Guru, Lord Shiva.
Meditation and any such exercise or rituals are taught and recommended, with an aim to bring the mind into singlepointedness and eventually make it to give up all imaginations, by becoming silent and go introverted to become aware of Itself consciously. This is Supreme Peace. This is Shiva. No more, the earlier imagined “I” is there. Only one single Self, Shiva is there.
Every year during the Shivaratri celebrations, going to Adivarapupeta which is Swamiji Guru Maharaj’s birth place and place of Twelve year Tapas and Mahasamadhi is such an enjoyable experience, to be in the presence of beloved Guru Maharaj who is all pervaded, omnipresent and omnipotent. It is like coming to the lap of Mother Divine. May the Divine Guru bless all and inspire to give the fortune of knowing one’s own Self through sadhana. Blessed are those, who have adopted Shivabalayogi in their consciousness at all times.
